I seek to understand the causes and effects of biodiversity and their consequences for human livelihoods. I use a holistic approach by linking ecology and macroecology, elucidating ecological mechanisms, and by developing spatially- and temporally-explicit frameworks that integrate functional diversity, multi-taxa diversity, above- and belowground interactions, and ecosystem functioning.
